A perfectly named place to celebrate our country’s freedom, Liberty, Utah. The aptly named town’s celebration has become one of the best kept secrets around. Hot pancakes come off the griddle as the sun rises along with the stars and stripes during the morning’s flag ceremony. A hometown parade starts shortly after and then the fun really kicks in.
The Liberty Days carnival features tons of family friendly favorites like mutton bustin’, a chicken catch and pig chase as well as mechanical bull riding. Then there’s the more traditional competitions like tugs of war, sack races, horseshoes a cake walk and volleyball.
The favorite event of the day is the Fish Catch. Gleeful kids wade around in a huge vat trying to catch the frantic rainbow trout with their bard hands. The squeals and excitement can barely be contained when they actually manage to land one.
As the sun hangs low in the sky, the celebration is capped off with a concert, dinner, a mechanical bull riding competition and dancing, then punctuated with a patriotic tribute and fireworks show.
