Causey Reservoir

On the south fork of the Ogden River above Huntsville, Utah sits the breathtaking Causey Reservoir. Nestled in steep valley terrain, the earth-fill dam was constructed in 1966 to provide water to the Northern Wasatch Front as part of the Weber Basin Project. It provides some of the most glorious scenery and recreation opportunities in the Monte Cristo Mountain Range. Resting at 5,700 feet, much of the water is from snow melt and can be quite chilly early in the year, however, it is a perfect reprieve in hot summer months. Much of the beach is privately owned, but Causey Reservoir still has plenty of room for water activities.

Recreation

Recreation includes cliff jumping, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and paddle boarding. Motorized boats are not allowed on the water but fishing from canoes and other small watercraft is. This keeps the area serene and peaceful for the annual Kokanee Salmon run. Around September 16th, thousands of these beautiful fish hatch, spawn, and make their way into the freshwater reservoir. Fish from the shore or explore the many tributaries by boat and catch a glimpse of these magnificent creatures. Cliff jumping is another popular activity at Causey Reservoir. Hike the Skull Crack Canyon Trail and find access to some of the best jumping cliffs in all of Northern Utah.
